Last week, I had a chance to visit Nava Health & Vitality Center, a new integrative wellness practice in Columbia. I work with both traditional doctors and an acupuncturist to manage my own health, so I was curious to see what the center offers.
Prior to sitting in on a nutrition seminar, I toured the facility to check out the very sweet doctors’ offices, acupuncture and massage rooms, and the fanciest infusion room I’ve ever seen — with leather rocking chairs!
The whole space, which is the first of several centers that will open in the Baltimore and DC area, is decorated in cool green and soothing blue tones to elicit a calming effect. Nava sells a variety of products, including its own line of supplements, like Nava Sport.
Ana Goldseker, the director of nutrition, was introduced to the packed room and started talking to us about ways to swap out bad foods for healthier choices this summer. We were able to taste test a few of her creations, including a summary salad with corn, quinoa, peas, and garlic with a splash of lemon juice, and cashew butter ice cream.
She challenged everyone to eat food that came from as close to the ground as possible. As you go to eat something, think about how many steps it went through after it came out of the ground.
